Training—BC Gustafson
To maintain proper compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards,
the District ensures that training follows the guidelines laid out in the codes listed below:
1001, 1002, 1021, 1041, 1401, 1403, 1404, 1451, 1500, 1521, 1561, 1584, 1901, 1911, 1932,
1936, 1971, 1981, 1982, 1670, 1851, 1852
Each of these requirements are included in the District’s policy manual, where any additional
training protocols or standards can be found for District employees. In order to maximize quality
of service for the community, the District works tirelessly to ensure that staff members receive
consistent and effective training compliant with necessary policies. Consistency and a dedication
to best practices improves efficacy of training and the safety of both District firefighters and the
community members they serve. Line-items such as tuition, class fees, training resources, and
fitness all assist in the process of building and maintaining a staff of firefighters that are properly
prepared to respond to all varieties of calls. Additionally, one of the District’s notable assets is its
emphasis on special teams such as Haz-Mat, Dive-Swift Water, Investigations, and Technical
Rescue. These specializations allow the District to be a valuable contributor to MABAS
Divisions 1 & 2, and budget breakdowns for special teams are available on pages 112-115.
