Investigation—FF/PM Ackerman
In the case of a fire, the District is required to do a thorough investigation to ensure that all
information about the cause is promptly documented as dictated by the Fire Investigations Act
(425 ILCS 25/). When necessary, these investigations supply information to the police if arson or
foul-play is suspected. Cooperation amongst these two agencies (the District and police
department) is crucial to the efficiency of public safety services throughout the District’s
coverage area. In the Investigations division, responsibilities include a team member’s arrival on
the scene of all fires, and a photographed documentation of the fire scene. After all evidence has
been collected, an investigation can be concluded on behalf of the District. Budget line-items
within this section cover the cost of all materials utilized to collect data and evidence from the
scenes of fires. In FY25, five new members were added to the roster in alignment with efforts to
expand the Fire Investigations Team.
