Fire Prevention Bureau—Fire Marshal Heimbecker
The annual budget for the Fire Prevention Bureau consists of a line for Tools & Equipment and a
line for Fire Signs. A small budget for Tools & Equipment allows the Bureau to purchase items
to organize and maintain fire department key boxes that are installed on buildings throughout the
District; small tools to aid inspections; and a variety of public education / fire prevention
materials that the Bureau can hand out to children during the course of inspection activities. The
Fire Sign budget is dedicated to ensuring any address within the unincorporated / rural portion of
the District can have a reflective sign on a post installed at the front of their property. Because
unincorporated areas often have limited-to-no street lighting and/or deep set-backs, it can be a
challenge for emergency responders to locate addresses in these neighborhoods. These red signs
clearly identify the address numeric and street name as well as the District initials (BFD).
