| CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
2026 Overview
Type: Fire Hose Replacement
Department: Engineering
Useful Life: Varies, annual replacement to
cover damage
Category: Equipment
Contact: Lt. Carr
Description:
Based on the extreme conditions they face and the nature of use, it is common to see wear and
tear damage on the District’s fire hoses that requires replacement on an annual basis. Budgeted
cost is $10,000.
Justification:
In the event of a fire, having access to reliable fire hoses is critical to successful fire suppression,
crew safety, and patient recovery. Proper maintenance and replacement of fire hose is dictated by
NFPA 1962. 2 Because the District’s fire hoses are stored on its apparatus, this budget item is in
alignment with the following low priority strategic goal: Efficiently Managed Resources -> a
well-maintained and sustainable fleet.
Budget Impact/Other:
Per GFOA best practices, operating impacts may be classified into one of three elements (or a
combination of the three) based on the nature of the purchase: 1) increased revenues, 2)
increased expenditures, and 3) additional cost savings. The District’s annual hose replacements
represent recurring expenditures. Additionally, this capital item provides the District indirect
additional cost savings upon purchase. This is due to a reduction in short-term repairs and
incurred liability from unreliable fire suppression equipment.
