BFPD Strategic Plan 2025-2027 - Flipbook - Page 5
Organizational Background
Originating as a volunteer fire department in 1897, Bartlett Fire Protection District (“District”) has
grown to serve approximately 46,000 residents with 56 full-time firefighter/paramedics and 8
administrative staff operating out of three strategically located stations. Staffed with uniformed and
civilian personnel, the District provides caring and professional service delivery to its residents, local
businesses, and visitors.
The District is an all-hazards department responding to medical emergencies, vehicle accidents,
structure fires, hazardous materials, dive/swift water rescues, and technical rescue incidents. It is a
member of Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Divisions 1 and 2 and responds to
approximately 4,800 calls annually. The District also places an emphasis on Community Risk
Reduction (CRR) through public education and safety initiatives.
Our Community:
The District’s main area of service is the Village of Bartlett, a northwest suburb of Chicago, located
35 miles from the Chicago Loop in Cook and DuPage counties. In addition to the Village of
Bartlett, the District also protects unincorporated areas of West Chicago, Wayne, Elgin, and
Hoffman Estates to cover a total of 24 square miles that include major state expressways like
routes 59, 20, and 90. The District houses a small downtown with retail shopping, local
restaurants, a Metra commuter train station, 3 freight rail lines, worship centers, forest preserve
districts, and a large business park which houses significant food manufacturers such as Get Fresh
and Rana Pasta. Though the District is primarily a bedroom community, with commuters taking
advantage of its proximity to Chicago, it is currently experiencing moderate residential growth
with developments such as the Grasslands Subdivision providing new housing opportunities for
families and aspiring homeowners.
Additionally, among the region’s aging population, the District has become a destination for
those seeking 55+ communities, assisted living or senior care facilities. There are four senior care
facilities within the District’s service area, and the District is continuously working to update its
Community Risk Reduction (CRR) model to ensure it is adapting to shifting residential
demographics. Each of these elements of the District’s community profile create unique
challenges and opportunities for service delivery.
