SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS
Watch vs. Warning
As spring and summer approach, changing temperatures can bring an increased risk of severe weather.
Storms can develop quickly, which is why it9s important for residents to prepare ahead of time and take
weather alerts seriously. We encourage everyone in our community to stay informed and have a plan in
place for severe weather events so you and your family know how to respond if conditions become
dangerous.
Warning sirens are located throughout the Village of Bartlett to help notify residents of weather
emergencies. These sirens are tested at 10 a.m. on the ûrst Tuesday of each month. Outside of these
scheduled tests, the sirens will only sound when a tornado warning has been issued. If you hear a siren,
take shelter immediately. Residents living in unincorporated areas should also be aware of the nearest
warning siren in surrounding communities such as Hoûman Estates, West Chicago, Elgin, or Wayne. If
you cannot hear a siren from your home, consider purchasing a weather radio or using a smartphone
weather alert app to stay informed.

It is also important to understand the diûerence between a watch and a warning. A watch means that
conditions are favorable for severe weather and that you should be prepared in case a storm develops. A
warning means a hazardous weather event is occurring or about to occur and you should take protective
