The Board of Fire Commissioners for the Bartlett Fire Protection District plays a critical governance role
in ensuring a fair, professional, and merit-based public safety workforce. Their primary responsibility is to
oversee the hiring, promotion, and discipline of sworn personnel in accordance with Illinois state law.
This includes developing and administering entrance and promotional examinations, maintaining
eligibility lists, and conducting interviews to ensure candidates meet the highest standards of integrity,
competency, and service.
The Board also conducts hearings on disciplinary matters when necessary, ensuring due process and
impartial decision-making. By operating independently from day-to-day department management, the
Commissioners help safeguard transparency, accountability, and public trust in the ûre district9s
personnel processes.
FIRE PIT & FIREWORK SAFETY
Reminders for the summer
Spending more time outside during this time of year also means being mindful of
ûre safety. In Bartlett, outdoor burning is regulated. Only clean, dry ûrewood
should be used, and burning leaves, trash, or yard waste is not allowed. We strongly
recommend bonûres be at least 50 feet from structures or combustible materials,
and ûres to be in approved containers at least 15 feet away. Fires should always be
attended and fully extinguished if conditions become windy or unsafe.
Fireworks are also restricted within the District, and most consumer ûreworks are
not permitted by law. The safest way to enjoy them is at a licensed public display.
Taking a few simple precautions helps keep you, your neighbors, and the
community safe.
