REVENUE OVERVIEW
As a special district form of government, the District is restricted in its ability to raise and
diversify its revenue sources. Consequently, fiscally responsible budgeting is paramount to
the longevity of the District’s fund balances. A breakdown and description of major revenue
sources can be found in the financial summaries section of this document. The following
items are the District’s primary sources of revenue:
Property Taxes: taxes paid by District residents
Replacement Taxes: taxes distributed by the
State of Illinois
Fees/Service Charges: primarily ambulance
billing
Grant Funding: grants received, often for
capital projects
Interest Income: interest collected on revenues
Miscellaneous: one-time sales/surpluses
