DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONS
OVERVIEW
Unlike traditional municipalities, which have a variety of departments to provide
comprehensive service delivery, the District is a special district form of government. In this
case, it is singularly purposed to provide EMS and fire suppression to its community
members. Consequently, it does not have separate departments, but is divided more
informally based on operational responsibilities. These “departments” are as follows:
Administration: Administration houses upper leadership as well as all non-operational
District entities. In addition to leading Operations, Administration handles the clerical,
financial, political, and policy-based work required to ensure the success and longevity of
the District. Its mission is to provide leadership and support to all members of the District
so that they may serve their community with excellence.
Fire Prevention Bureau: This department houses the District’s Fire Marshal and Fire
Inspectors. The Fire Prevention Bureau oversees the enforcement of fire codes within the
Village and the unincorporated areas within the District. Its mission is to reduce the risks
associated with fire and other hazards throughout the community.
IT: The District contracts out its IT support, but IT services are available through
Administration. This department provides all technical, software, hardware, and securitybased support for the District. Its mission is to provide consistent and reliable
cybersecurity protection and support.
Finance: The District contracts out for its finance department, which is housed in
Administration. This department provides all financial support for the District, including
accounting, budgeting, and assistance with the annual audit. Its mission is to promote
financial wellness, longevity, and transparency.
Community Relations: The District’s Community Relations team operates jointly out of
Administration and Operations. This department provides a variety of services that center
around public education and community engagement. Its mission, aimed at reducing risk in
the community, is to provide fun, safe, and equitable access to public safety information.
Operations: Operations is the largest department in the District, both in size and variety of
goals and objectives. Housed within Operations are the District’s AOR’s (see pages 100101) which include critical items such as training and special teams. This department
provides the services that traditionally come to mind when you hear “fire department,”
such as fire suppression and EMS. Its mission is to ensure all FF/PMs have access to the
appropriate gear, equipment, and training so that they may safely serve their community
with skill, efficiency, and effectiveness.
