DISTRICT PROFILE
What is a Fire District?
A fire department is typically tied to a city and the boundaries of that city. The city fire department
is funded by the taxes collected by that city. A Fire District is typically tied to several communities
and unincorporated areas outside of these communities and is funded by property taxes from the
area they serve. Fire Districts are able to levy taxes and are governed by their own Board of
Trustees.
Bartlett Fire Protection District
Bartlett Fire Protection District began as a group of citizen volunteers in 1897 and remained a
volunteer department, despite undergoing several reorganizations, until 1950 when the Fire
District’s first Board of Trustees were selected. Today, Bartlett Fire Protection District staffs 53
sworn full-time personnel, 2 sworn part-time personnel, 1 fire chaplain, and 5 support personnel.

vehicles include 2 fire engines, 1 tower ladder, 2 ambulances, 1 battalion chief vehicle, 1 special
teams squad, 1 TRT trailer, 1 fire investigations squad, and 1 UTV. Its reserve vehicles include 2
